-Knowing how we got to where we are will help us get to where we want to go.

-Homeostasis describes a cycle of order, disorder, and order. It states that a system has stability at X, an event occurs that causes disorder and moves the system to chaos and uncertainty at Y, and then the system does everything possible to get back to stability at X, and as swiftly as it can.

-Nevertheless, as a result of our longstanding bias, most people tend to respond in one of four ways when faced with change, whether to themselves or to the broader structures in their lives.

1. Attempt to avoid change or refuse to acknowledge it

2. Actively resist change

3. Sacrifice Agency Amidst Chaos

4. Try to get back to where we were

-In the vast majority of situations, healthy systems do not rigidly resist change; rather, they adapt to it, moving forward with grace and grit.

-the way to stay stable through the process of change is by changing, at least to some extent.

-In these examples you achieve stability not by fighting change or getting back to where you were, but rather by skillfully working with change and arriving at some place new.
